East Midlands Sarcoma Service
Welcome to the East Midlands Sarcoma Service website. We are one of 15 NICE accredited treatment centres for soft tissue sarcomas in England and Wales. We are a regional referral centre for soft tissue and retroperitoneal sarcomas. We manage in excess of 150 new soft tissue sarcomas per annum and we are IOG (Improving Outcomes Guidance for Sarcoma) compliant.
Based at Nottingham University Hospital (City Campus) and Leicester Royal Infirmary, the East Midlands Sarcoma Service aims to operate a streamlined multidisciplinary approach for management of soft tissue sarcomas. The Unit is comprised of a team of highly trained and dedicated health care professionals who offer state-of-the-art healthcare to patients both as outpatients and inpatients.
Sarcoma diagnostic clinics are held at Leicester Royal Infirmary and the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals. These are usually held on a Monday concurrent with the MDT team meetings. Radiology is centred at LRI and City but offered throughout the region as appropriate but reviewed by our specialist sarcoma radiologists. We have dedicated soft tissue sarcoma pathologists and on site specialist pathology service and molecular diagnostics. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are also administered at Derby, Lincoln and Northampton as well as Nottingham and Leicester.
Each member of the Unit places a high priority on ongoing research into sarcoma and other cancers and publish regularly in national and international journals.
